The 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, set for 9-13 June in Nice, France, will focus on accelerating actions to conserve and sustainably use oceans and marine resources, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14). Co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, the conference aims to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including governments, UN agencies, NGOs, civil society, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, and Indigenous peoples.

This inclusive gathering seeks to address challenges, assess progress, and foster partnerships to enhance the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean. The conference will build on the groundwork laid by previous UN Ocean Conferences in New York (2017) and Lisbon (2022) and will feature discussions around newly proposed themes for ocean action, as detailed in recent communications from the co-hosts and the President of the General Assembly. The event underscores the ocean’s critical role in biodiversity, climate regulation, and global sustainability, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect and utilize marine resources responsibly.
