The forum’s timing is pivotal, occurring shortly after the U.S. presidential election and before significant global meetings like the G20 in Rio and COP in Baku. This edition of the Paris Peace Forum will focus on the impact of recent global elections, including those for the European Parliament and national elections in countries such as India, Mexico, Indonesia, France, and the United Kingdom. It aims to address the repercussions of these political changes on the geopolitical landscape and multilateralism. The forum will convene shortly after the UN Summit of the Future, facilitating urgent discussions on violent conflicts affecting areas from Ukraine to the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
Moreover, the forum will delve into the governance of global public goods such as agriculture, transition minerals, and fair benefit-sharing in public health. Issues like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence will also be key topics, given their increasing relevance to both north-south and east-west relations. The forum’s discussions are designed to foster sustainable peace and better coordination across different global divides.
Each year, the Paris Peace Forum attracts a diverse array of leaders, decision-makers, and activists. Notable previous participants have included figures such as Emmanuel Macron, Kamala Harris, and Antonio Guterres, reflecting the high-profile and influential nature of the event. This year’s list of speakers and panelists, to be announced shortly before the event, is expected to include similarly prominent figures.
The event will also showcase ten innovative projects selected at the 2023 Forum, highlighting their results and advancements achieved through the forum’s Scale-up Program. These projects tackle a variety of critical issues, from enhancing agricultural collectives for marginalized women to promoting justice for victims in conflict zones like Ukraine, illustrating the practical impact of the forum’s collaborative efforts.
