Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is set to host the first-ever Baku Climate Action Week from September 30 to October 4, serving as a precursor to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November. Organised under the leadership of the COP29 High-Level Champion, Nigar Arpadarai, the event is a collaboration with London Climate Action Week, the largest city-based climate action event globally.

Baku Climate Action Week aims to galvanise local and international efforts to address climate change, featuring a blend of high-level conferences and community-focused events. This initiative underscores Azerbaijan’s proactive stance on environmental issues and its commitment to fostering global cooperation for sustainable solutions.

The week’s activities will spotlight the diverse ways Baku and Azerbaijan are tackling climate challenges and exploring opportunities in the green transition. With a focus on inclusive engagement, the event will draw participation from political and business leaders, local communities, and youth, ensuring a broad-based approach to climate education and action.

COP29 President-Designate, Mukhtar Babayev, emphasised Azerbaijan’s leadership in climate action, highlighting the significance of Baku Climate Action Week in mobilising global and local stakeholders. The event will also feature discussions on renewable technologies and the green transition, reflecting Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainability.
